Journal

A journal can be a treasure chest full of wisdom, thoughts, and dreams. Journals can become a priceless addition to one’s life. A journal crafted by one’s own hands can add to its value. Several years ago, my teacher created a beautiful, elegant journal for a silent auction to benefit charity. There are countless ways to expand on this craft. Alter the instructions in an way you wish to create your own unique journal.

30-50 sheets of paper (i.e. colored paper, textured paper, or corrugated cardboard to create an interesting effect. My class used a speckled paper in earthy tones called “stardust.”)
2 sheets of cardboard or tagboard
Assorted stamps
Ink
Ribbon
Pressed flowers and leaves
Glue
Glass beads

1. Use pressed flowers and leaves to create a collage on one side of each piece of cardboard or tagboard. These pieces will form your journal’s front and back covers.

2. Decorate the borders of the sheets of paper with stamps and the remaining pressed flowers and leaves.

3. Place one piece of cardboard/tagboard with the decorated side face down. Stack the sheets of paper on top of this piece of cardboard. Place the other piece of cardboard/tagboard on top of the pages with the decorated side face up. You should have pages sandwiched between two covers.

4. Use a hole punch to create three holes through the side of the journal.

5. Thread ribbon through the holes to bind the journal together. Attach glass beads at the ends of the ribbon.

Other ideas to decorate the journal pages:
*Glitter
*Stencils of ivy, flowers, etc.
*Dip a paintbrush in paint and flick the paintbrush over the pages. This creates a splatter effect. Marbles can be dipped in paint and rolled over the pages as well.
*If you wish to use stickers, I recommend you use transparent kinds.
